Diversity Recruitment Event

Thursday, October 24, 2019
5:00-8:00 PM
University Center Ballroom, UMBC
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Karl W. Reid, Executive Director of the National Society of Black Engineers

NSBE logoThe Career Center, along with the UMBC Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, present our annual Diversity Recruitment Event.

This event is an excellent opportunity to network with UMBC's diverse student population. We are inviting employers who are actively recruiting students from diverse backgrounds. Meet and network with up to 250 UMBC students from various majors and class levels. (Note: This event is not limited to STEM students.) Due to space limitations we can only accommodate up to two representatives for dinner, however there is no limit to the number of representatives you may bring for the networking reception, which preceeds the dinner.

Sponsorship opportunities

Sponsorship opportunities include paid sponsorship or donation of prize(s) to be awarded to student attendees. Companies who sponsor the event or donate prize(s) will receive their company logo on promotional materials, such as the online student registration page, program booklet and event sign (see registration form below for sponsorship price).

We are happy that you will be joining us for our annual Diversity Recruitment Event at UMBC and we look forward to an evening of great conversation and networking.

Only Equal Employment Opportunity Employers may participate.

UMBC is a smoke free campus. Please review our Campus Smoking Policies.

    Freshmen Friendly?

Large career events can be intimidating to a first time student visitor. Through the years, we have encouraged our freshmen to attend career events to become comfortable with the format, begin developing their networking skills, and to learn about the career opportunities that are available at various organizations. Identifying employers as Freshmen Friendly will allow our first-year students to confidently approach companies that would like to speak with them.

We are asking employers to identify themselves as Freshmen Friendly if interested in being approached by freshmen and are willing to spend time discussing their organization, types of internships/jobs that are available, and the skill sets that are most desirable.

Employers that agree to be designated as Freshmen Friendly will have a notation in the directory distributed to students electronically prior to and in print at the event.

Research shows that students value the opportunity to interact in a meaningful way with company representatives. It is our hope that early interactions such as these will bring students back to your company as they progress through their university experience.
